At AquaCulture, we’re passionate about bringing the power of the Cornish sea back to the soil. For centuries, farmers along the coast have spread seaweed across their fields to enrich the land and boost fertility. Today, that same tradition is being carried forward in a refined and accessible way - through our liquid organic seaweed fertiliser.
This summer, we’ve partnered with Tresemple Farm, an organic and regenerative farm in Cornwall, to trial our fertiliser across their grazing fields.
Breaking with tradition, for the right reasons
As a regenerative farm, Tresemple typically avoids using sprayers. However, in this case, they’ve chosen to make an exception.
“Normally, we’d never use a sprayer on our land, but because AquaCulture’s fertiliser is 100% natural and approved for organic systems, it felt right to make an exception. We see this as an opportunity to enhance our soil without compromising our values.” - Rhys Morris, Tresemple Farm
Focused on grass growth
The trial is specifically designed to measure the benefits of seaweed on pasture growth. By enriching the soil and stimulating healthier grasses, Tresemple Farm aims to provide their herd with a more nutrient-dense diet - ultimately supporting the production of high-quality organic beef.
One grazing field has been sprayed with AquaCulture fertiliser, while the neighbouring field has been left untreated. This side-by-side approach allows for the most accurate comparison of growth, colour and resilience.
Dilution rates
For the first stage of the trial, the team tested a dilution rate of 66 litres of fertiliser mixed with 1,944 litres of water, equating to roughly 1:30. This ensures that the seaweed’s rich profile of over 60 trace minerals, plant hormones and amino acids is delivered effectively into the soil.
Early results
The trials will continue over the coming weeks, but after just three weeks the difference is already clear.
“We’ve measured over 30% more growth in the seaweed-treated field compared to the control field. Not only is the grass taller, but it’s noticeably thicker, with a deeper, more vibrant colour. It’s the kind of improvement you can see just by walking the field.” - Rhys Morris, Tresemple Farm
Why seaweed works
Seaweed is often described as a superfood for farming. It naturally supports soil and plant health by:
- Stimulating stronger, healthier plant growth 🌱
- Improving soil structure and microbial activity 🌍
- Increasing resilience against stress such as drought, grazing or poor weather 💪
By applying seaweed back to the land, we’re restoring natural nutrients that have long been lost from modern farming systems.
Continuing the journey
The trial at Tresemple Farm is ongoing, and both AquaCulture and the farm team are committed to gathering more data across growth, soil health and animal nutrition.
We’ll continue to share updates as the results unfold.
